The missing full memory dump option in Windows 7
I didn’t realize this until saw the article at OSR Online. According to the article, due to a legacy limitation from I/O manager which no longer exists, the full memory dump option will be missing form control panel if there are more than 2GB RAM installed. The workaround is to modify two following registry locations:
- Set HKLM\System\CCS\Control\CrashControl\CrashDumpEnabled DWORD value to 1
- Set HKLM\System\CCS\Control\CrashControl\AlwaysKeepMemoryDump DWORD value to 1

Wow I can’t believe I never noticed this. Very handy tip. I always wondered why my C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP’s didn’t seem to be created!
Thanks this was a very useful tip.
